2 Chronicles 30-32

"Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah, broke the pillars in pieces, cut down the Asherim and pulled down the high places and the altars..." 2 Chron. 31:1a

Reading back in chapter 30 we find the southern kingdom, Judah, and a remnant of the recently exiled northern kingdom Israel gathering and celebrating the Passover as it had not be celebrated since the days of Solomon, hundreds of years prior. And after the Passover, the congregation even decides to continue the feast for seven more days in honor of God. They were worshiping.

Ever really worshiped? I have. There have been some of those incredible times in my life where I came to worship and, for one reason or another, was permitted to worship more fully and wholly than normal.

What was the effect in my life when that happened? I took on new, or stronger, commitments and went out into the lands of my own heart and broke down opposing idols in my life.

True worship leads us, like the Israelites in 2 Chronicles, to go out and cast down life's idols. They left their worship celebration changed. They had met with God, having humbled themselves (30:11) to venture to His house under His hand, to commemorate as He had appointed. There they met with God and were changed. And that revival in spirit led to action in their lives.

When was the last time your worship led to the destruction of your life's false idols? I want to challenge you this week to consider your worship. Look at this week and its coming services at church for that type of experience. True worship comes on God's terms to honor Him as Sovereign King. It takes humility. It takes effort. But if you've ever experienced it, it's worth it... to know and be known by Him.

"And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace."

"Little children, guard yourselves from idols." 1 John 5:21
