Genesis 27-29

"I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." (Gen 28:15b)

What a wonderful thought. God promised His faithfulness to Jacob. All things spoken over him would be accomplished. Jacob had God's word. Jacob was only beginning to learn of his father's God (cp. 28:20-22), but here his father's God declares His own steadfast relationship with Jacob and guarantees His words of promise over his life.

Yet it doesn't just apply to Jacob, those same words are for believers today also. What a blessed assurance; that we, as Jacob, can stand on the promises of God. Honestly, that may be one of the only things that keeps me going, God's promises. They are the peace in the storm, the hope in times of turmoil, and the comfort in times of pain, the consolation in moments of personal failure.

To know that God will bring the promises spoken over me to fruition means that I can rest in His faithful steady hand guiding my life. I am free to walk with Him, knowing that He is walking with me. I am calmed by His tender shepherd's hand. In the midst of chaos and stress, I can relax. The world is not held together by me; it is held together by the great Promise Keeper.

Praise God for His promises and His promise to bring them to pass. "He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises." (2 Peter 1:4a)

Standing on the promises of Christ, my King!
Thro' eternal ages let His praises ring;
"Glory in the highest!" I will shout and sing
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
